How to Play Paint & Seek 2D
A quick guide to the free online multiplayer hide-and-seek game
Paint & Seek 2D is a multiplayer twist on hide-and-seek. Each round, players are split into Painters (who hide) and Spotters (who seek). Here's everything you need to know.
Getting into a game
- Open the game and pick Create Game, Find Game (browse public rooms), or Join Private Game with a code.
- In the lobby, customize your avatar — choose a shape and a face.
- Press Mark Ready. The host starts the round once everyone is ready.
If you're a Painter (hider)
- During the hide phase, paint your avatar to disguise yourself and blend into the scene.
- Move around and hide among props and other players — sometimes hiding in plain sight works best.
- You earn points for every second you survive. The longer you stay hidden, the higher your score.
If you're a Spotter (seeker)
- When the find phase begins, search each room for disguised Painters.
- Click or tap a player you think is a Painter to catch them. Miss, and everyone sees a splash where you clicked.
- Find every Painter before time runs out to win for the Spotters.
Controls
- Move: arrow keys / A and D (or the on-screen pad on touch).
- Jump / climb: Space / W (or the jump button).
- Paint: tap the Paint button, then drag on your avatar; pick colors and a brush size.
- Change rooms: walk to a room's edge to move between connected rooms.
Game modes
- Join Spotter after caught (Classic): a caught Painter becomes a Spotter and joins the hunt.
- Freeze: a caught Painter freezes in place until the round ends.
Tips
- Match your avatar's colors to the background to disguise better.
- As a Spotter, watch for avatars that move unnaturally or don't fit the scene.
- Use room transitions to escape a Spotter closing in.
